about

"Notes To Self" is an album of songs I (mostly) wrote and recorded into my telephone as voice memos over a 72 hour period of time.

The short version of the story is this...Upon feeling a bit stagnant and after the dissolution of a relationship, I wrote each song as a way to shake myself back out of the hole I found myself in. It's certainly one of the most straightforward and honest things I have put down. I used many of these as demos for future recordings....and perhaps I will use some of them still. Some songs have since changed, other parts were used in future songs. This is the first take of every one of these songs.

As a recording side-note...for the music nerds out there...

The overdubs proved a challenge when I wanted to add extra parts. I figured out that if I emailed myself a voice memo, I could play it back through gmail and record other parts as separate voice memos. I then put all of the parts into the recording gear that I normally use, lined them up with each other so the timing was right, added a little reverb and that was it.

"Notes To Self" was 3 days of my life in 2012.

I made the album $3 to purchase. $1 for each day I spent on it.

about

Michael Mazochi Los Angeles, California

Mazochi has been pursuing the evolution of expression for the better part of a decade. His work ranges from folk, to country, to indie rock, to pop, to rock and roll. His more instrumentally dense work with his band "The Von Furs" is an exploration of pop, psychedelic, garage and good old fashioned rock n' roll while his solo work tends towards the more intimate confessions of a solo artist. ... more
